Freshman students Sophia Liu and Sanvhi Gandhi created an instrument exposition called the Sound Safari, encouraging young students to try out different instruments. With the help of many teachers such as Mrs. Daniela Monzon Villegas, Mr. Andres Villa, and Mr. Dean Bell, these students were able to put on a hit event that gathered the attention of many students and families.
The event consisted of lovely performances by Music Conservatory and other music students who also taught other students how to play the instruments. Families were taken to different rooms in the Stephens Media Art Center where they learned about the violins, violas, cellos, double basses, and pianos. Additionally, they were able to enter a raffle, with two lucky contestants winning a dancing cactus toy and Otamatone. At then end, the attendees were given cookies, brownies, and lemonade as treats and left with new knowledge and a passion for music.
“This year was a test round of sorts,” the student managers explained. “We now know what we need to improve on and what worked well. We’re excited to do it again next year and hope to see a few new faces this year!”
